Chemisty IIn Chemistry you will gain a basic understanding of inorganic chemistry, and will be introduced to organic chemistry. Problem solving and the scientific method are emphasized. In this course they will study: the metric system, matter, energy, atomic structure, the periodic table, formation of compounds, chemical equations, Stoichiometry, gases, liquids, solids, and solutions. One of the toughest tasks in chemistry I is to memorize ions in order to write chemical equations; and write, balance, and predict products of chemical equations. Each chapter will require a hands on laboratory experiment that reinforces the topic being taught. Chemistry I should prepare them for future course work in high school and college, as well as empower them to broaden their career choices in the future. This class is offered as a concurent class through Garden City Community Colledge. It is a 5 hour laboratory science credit.
